Light up the Darkness

397850_212161932212700_153727211389506_417279_1336180473_n“The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off , why should I. Light up the darkness” – Bob Marley

The attached quote was stated by Bob Marley, before appearing on stage to perform at a peace rally; after being shot just two days prior to the peaceful event. It was also quoted in the movie “I am Legend” by main character Will Smith, as he recites it to the woman in the movie; in regards to the plaque that had killed most of humanity and turned the rest into creatures causing destruction throughout New York.

However, we can also take that quote from Bob Marley, to also start promoting what we love instead of promoting all the things we hate. If we focused more on all the things in this world that brings us joy and happiness, there would be no room in our lives for any hatred or negativity.

An eye for an eye only leaves everyone blind. Besides, why should we waste our time, our thoughts, our days and our energy focusing on things that would never be a part of our lives? Think about it, do you allow something you hate to be a part of your life? If you don’t like a certain food you don’t eat it; a certain color you don’t wear it, so, why allow any negativity into your life by allowing it a thought.

If we really want to start the New Year off correctly, why not only speak on the positive things in life which we are interested in. Instead of talking badly about other people, commenting on subjects you don’t agree with and just being negative in our daily actions, why not speak on, think on and comment on things that interest you that are going to make your and others life better.

You have to agree that when we spend our time focusing on the negative things in life, it only leads us closer to destruction toward our own hearts and others lives. Yet, if we devote our time and actions to living in a more positive manner, it not only helps us, but it will also help to become an inspiration to others around you within your circle and at home to be more positive as well.

I am sure we are all aware that life is short, so why waste the rest of your time here being negative and spreading the negativity among others around you. Instead let’s focus on making the life we have left here brighter by being a light in all the darkness.

  1. This post could not be more timely, at least for me today. I recently sent close friends and family members a message sharing some positive news in my life and requested that they share a piece of positive news in theirs. While nearly all responded with words of goodwill for me, only responded back without prodding, three more responding with prodding and the others simply did not respond back with any positive news. These were not random people or ‘Facebook’ friends. They were people I have known for decades. It is was almost as if they were uncomfortable sharing good news and releasing positive energy. I appreciate your post.

    • Hi Kendall,

I am glad you found that post useful to you. I am sorry, that some of those individuals did not share any positivity or good news with you. You just keep giving out positivity and those who get it and appreciate it will continue to share with you and those that don’t…well, they won’t. keep your head up! 🙂

  2. I like the reflection on what an eye for an eye does. Thank you for the like on the OM interview. (Just posted the rest of it.) Cheerleading your way.

    • Thank you, for the words of encouragement. It is greatly appreciated! 🙂

  3. Very good article. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Recently, I created a page on Facebook – Choose Love and Forgiveness. It was a response to the hatred that some people were spewing around me at the time. Thanks for visiting my blog and liking my post. 🙂

    • Let those haters be your motivators! Thanks, for the comments.

  4. Reblogged this on Retirement Lifestyle Blog and commented:
    This is a powerful posting.
In a world where social media is dominated with opinions, given by people as a form of entertainment, the words and statements mean so much.

  5. Just watched I am Legend for like the 20th time, love the quote, I just wish you would put the comma right after the word ‘off’ instead of having a space between the two, it drives people like me crazy…. sorry
