We Need a Resolution
Because we are imperfect people, we may find ourselves in some form of conflict almost every day of our lives. We have weaknesses in us that others see clearly but we’ve never seen or noticed about ourselves. We have weaknesses that we are totally clueless about. That is why we need to come to conflict resolution with a humble heart and begin with our own faults.
Jesus said “Why do you notice the little piece of dust in your friend’s eye, but you don’t notice the big piece of wood in your own eye? You must first take the wood out of your own eye. Only then will you be able to see clearly to take the dust out of your friend’s eye.” (Matthew 7:3, 5b NCV)
What Jesus is stating in that passage is that you need to confess your part of the conflict first. What is the piece of wood in your eye causing you to not see the situation clearly? Conflicts don’t come about by themselves, so don’t you blame the other person and what they have done or ways they may have hurt you until you confess your part of the conflict first.
Sometimes we do things to harm others and feel as though we have done nothing wrong or that what we’ve done is justifiable. That is because of the weakness we have, those we fail to see yet, others see clearly. Those would be called your blind spots.
Have you caused conflict by being insensitive to another? Did you not show compassion for the person that was hurting? When you caused hurt and pain did you not think of others that may also be hurt from the conflict? We must notice and remove the big piece of wood from our own eye in order to see clear enough to remove the dust from another’s eye.
What causes us from seeing our own sin clearly? How will you move forward with resolving a conflict in your life? How will you make the first move? Because Lord knows we need a resolution!
