I have a Dream
Here it is 2018 and it feels to me like instead of us progressing that we are going backwards as people. Regardless of what our differences in life are, the truth and fact of the matter is we all want the same things in life for ourselves , our children and our families, which are peace, respect, love, acceptance, prosperity and happiness. Is that really too much to ask for? If I have never done anything to harm you, or disrespect you, why does the color of my skin bother you so much? I bet we have a lot in common, but have you taken the time to get to know ME the person underneath the skin color you hate so much? And why do you hate me? Do you even know why? Do you hate me because of my beliefs? Like you, my family has instilled in me certain beliefs, but that doesn’t mean I hate others because their beliefs aren’t like mine. I embrace all differences, because I find the world much more interesting when we have such differences. If we were all the same it would be boring as hell. I want to know other cultures and ways of life. I may not understand them all, but it is not for me to understand, but to respect and appreciate. Imagine a world where everyone looked like you, and acted like you. Whether you want to admit it or not you would be bored to tears. If you want to go deep and really think about it, some of you already hate on those that look just like you. You look down on those who are homeless, the street walkers, the man on the corner playing music for his supper, or those less educated than you, and the girl with the pink and blue hair with piercings and tattoos that looks just like you. And why? You really have no reason to not like them, because you don’t know them or their struggle and you don’t even try to get to know them. I hope as we go deeper into 2018 we become more acceptable of those who look like us as well as those that looks different than us and that we take the time to get to know people for who they are and not what we perceive them to be based on their looks, skin color or beliefs. That’s my dream. What’s yours?
