Yes, Darling, You’re Different!
Do you feel as though people just don’t get you? Me too! When I was younger that would have bothered me, but now that I am older, I don’t give a hoot, and neither should you.
Our differences are what makes us interesting. I love those individuals that have a wacky weird side to them. I find them not only interesting but fun and very smart. Let’s face it, we all have some little thing within us that makes others look at us and shake their heads. For example, I can sit and wonder about weird things like “Do blind people dream, and if so, can they see the visions in their dreams?” Although I know it would depend on how they became blind, I do wonder.
When we are different, sometimes we don’t see those who accept us for who we are; all we notice are those who don’t. Realize this, and never allow the negative naysayers to stop you from being you. When you receive negative feedback, keep in mind that it doesn’t matter how many people don’t get you, it matters how many do.
I met this guy once who I found to be exciting, funny, and the most interesting guy I’ve met in a very long time. I mean he can talk for hours, yet I enjoyed every conversation I had with him. It was like having a story read to me each day. I found it very entertaining! Yet, he would apologize for talking so much and told me that most people says he talks too much. Granted, he was a tad long-winded and could have been trying to impress me with all his various life stories, but it didn’t bother me. I figured if he felt comfortable enough to open up and be himself when speaking to me, why bust his bubble. Why not just embrace who he is?
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned not to take others’ criticism personally. The truth is the way most people feel is because of them, not you, and that is the honest to God truth. Most people do not like who they are, but that is no reason for them to try and make you not like who you are. Do you know how many people would love to be able to be open and vulnerable and just be their true selves with others without being judged or made fun of? All of us.
Being different makes you interesting and it not only shows that you have a mind of your own, and you do your own thing without following the status quo, but it also shows that you have the guts to be YOU. So, yes, darling you are different, so just embrace it!
